Tiruchirappalli Metro or Trichy Metro is a proposed rapid transit system for the city of Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. Initially the system was proposed as the Tiruchirappalli Monorail[1] but after feasibility study it was recommended to be a metro rail project. The initial proposal recommended two lines of 45 km in length with 45 stations.
While the DFR, submitted in August 2023, confirmed the viability of a metro system in Trichy, the project has not been prioritised by the state government. CMRL sources said Chennai, Coimbatore, and Madurai metro projects are currently receiving priority.
2024: Preliminary work for the Coimbatore Metro Rail Project will start in January–February 2025,” as said by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) Managing Director MA Siddique. The land acquisition for the Metro Rail project is currently underway and will progress in a process based manner.
